Good Cheap Fixed Blade Knife?
I'm looking for a cheap fixed blade for outdoor tasks, mainly woodworking and fire prep. I would like it to be around 6 inches and preferably full flat ground so I can baton easier through logs. I'm a little short on cash right now so I'm lookin for one under our around $40.
thanks
actually multitools are more for edc, and urban environments in my opinion. I do carry a multitool though (either a leatherman wave or skeletool cx) for the pliers and for back up blades and other tools. But still I am looking for a fixed blade and because out in the woods I prefer a fixed blade because of the chopping and hacking tasks required in a survival situation i.e. cutting up logs for fire or shelter. I also am not a fan of serratred knives because they are a pain to sharpen (even with a triangle sharpmaker) and I can do any task with a sharp plain edge as I can with a serrated knife.
I have bought a couple of knives from these guys--they are good. I noticed they have a bunch of fixed blades. I have a KaBar and like it although it is a little big. I did notice they had some less expensive knives--you should check them out. They look pretty good to me.
I know it is a little higher than you said, but my friend has the CRKT Ultima (he has the smaller 5" one) and it is pretty good. Also, I was looking at the Basic Survival Knife they carry--it looks fairly good. Has a sawback for that type of stuff and then a nice plain blade for the real work. Check it out.
