leatherman knifeless
Is it illegal to carry a Leatherman/Gerber multitool in Western Australia?

I would like to buy a multitool to use for odd jobs that come up. I am a garden/maintenance worker, so I will use the tool at work.
I would also like to carry it with me in public, when I go bushwalking etc. but am concerned about the knifes on the tool making it illegal. I am aware that there are various knifeless multitools available, but the knife is the most versatile attachment, and the one I will probably use the most.
I would not take it to nightclubs, pubs and other areas that are obviously no-nos, but would probably carry it with me to the shops, when out walking, while driving, at the beach etc.
I intend to carry it clearly visible on my belt.
If I did this, would I be in danger of having my multitool confiscated or being charged with carrying a weapon?

if you carried it clearly visible and you were seen with it, or you were using it to protect yourself you probably could be charged.
When I was growing up most kids carried pocket knives, never any thought to using them for protection or to harm anyone else.
Most farmers always carried knives on their belts, for the problems that came up on a daily basis eg cutting twine on bales etc.
Now kids are carrying them for protection in Perth, so cops take a dim view of people carrying weapons in public.
Even pepper sprays are illegal for protection in WA.
If your multitool was in your toolbox then it would be no problem would be my understanding.
