How can I restore my stainless steel knife?
I have a collector quality knife. The other day, I was trying to sharpen the edge using finger holding small knife sharpener, however the non edge part on both side of the blade got scratched. The blade is stainless steel. When I look at the scratch and try to feel it, I can not feel the scratch. I thought I could just buff it off. However I have not been able to.
I've tried rubbing compound and whitening teeth brush, but the mark is still there. Any expert's advice ? Also, notice the edge is not sharp at all, it left zig zag edge instead. How can I make these edge smooth ? (The other side of the blade is and has been smooth). Please help~!
as a semi retired gunsmith...
I use something like this to remove fine scratches
http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-684-01-20-Piece-Polish-Accessory/dp/B00005LEXV
you use the polishing compound and felt wheels work slowly on low speeds... to fast and you can leave a burn mark on the blade..
for Sharpening use something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Pocket-Sharpener-Model-1337/dp/B000Q6OPX6
please note I do not endorse amazon just using them as reference
