CAN YOU LIST FOR Me WHAT EXACTLY WOULD A WWII WW2 U.S. CORPORAL OR PRIVATE WOULD HAVE ON HIM IN COMBAT?
in the European area of combat mid - late war...just the average GI... lets say his main gun is an m1 carbine...everything that was on his belt ect... everything from the shoes socks and underwear to the pants, the pistol & knife...to the undershirt to the thick jacket and thin one and the helmet & mess kit...suspenders...dog tags...ammo pouches (please give detail)...uniform...what ever he had in combat!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please thanks
Usually no pistol, this weapon is reserved for higher rank. You didn't mention bayonet, rifle cleaner, (I still have mine) The M! is not a carbine, the foot soldier carried an MI Garand, which is a rifle. The cleaning tools were carried inside the stock which had a little metal door on the very bottom. Grenade bandoleers. Keep in mind, a combat role under a variety of conditions would consume a variety of warfare tools. I E flamethrowers, sniper rifle, mortar pods, C-rat for three days,.You most likely want to designate the rifleman from a squad and the work up the gear in that one category. One man would have a radio, another a medical kit, and so on, but these were all soldiers. Don't forget the famous bazooka.
Here is a quote from one of the links below. This quote happens to be for the USMC, but I show it to demonstrate the range and variety of weapons. That's why, I say to make the question simple, pick one main job, such as rifleman.
"USMC Rifle Squad - 13 men (1944): The marine squad evolved throughout the war, adding additional firepower with each increment until settling on the 13-man configuration in mid 1944. Organized with a squad leader (Thompson SMG), and 3 x 4-man fire teams (3 rifles + 1 BAR each). In addition to the assigned personal weapons, the company commander could allocate 1 demolition pack and 1 flame thrower per squad as well as 1 bazooka per platoon, depending on mission requirements. These weapons would be carried by one of the squad's rifleman in addition to a personal weapon (often an M1 carbine to lighten the load). Since marines were often engaged in close-in fighting, they would frequently scrounge Thompson SMG's to replace rifles when available. "
