Should you use oil when using a knife sharpener that is ceramic (ie, a crock stick)?

I have used a crock stick for 20 years, now, and I have never used oil on it.

I disagree with the above answerer about stones, though. I also have stones and if I *don't* use oil, they "gum up" with metal particulates. Oiling a stone makes cleanup much easier, and makes them last much longer.

Also -- to clean a ceramic stick, you need to use an abrasive cleanser. Most of the chlorine cleansers (Comet, Ajax, Bon Ami) are no longer abrasive like they used to be. The only one I have found that is still abrasive is, "Bar Keeper's Friend".
