knife edge
Do you sharpen a knife with a jagged edge or one that has no jagged edge?

my daddy is down stairs in the kitchen sharpening knives htat have a jagged edge on them. he so convinced that you sharpen the ones with a jagged edge. im telling him that you don't because that hurts the knife. arn't i right?

For home cutlery, you first sharpen a straight bladed knife with a honing rod each time you use it. Reserve the stone for occasional sharpening of a straight blade, only by experienced professionals as the angles are critical to keeping the sharp edge. A serrated blade is meant to stay sharp over time unless it is severely damaged. Then you can get a set of ceramic rods to rake the blade over to help knock down the points. Otherwise unless you have a round grinding sharpener for serrated blades, let the professionals do it. It is cheaper for good cutlery than buying a new blade. You can always check a local Fair where some professional services set-up or check with a local restaurant supply service.
