i need a place for my cooking knives, any ideas?

i have quite a few chef knives and some smaller ones too along with carving and all purpose knives and can't find a block or anything like that to keep them. i don;t like having them in a drawer, any other ideas of how i can store them convieniently?

Magnetic strips are ok, but they have their own drawbacks.
For one, strips are pretty much out of question if you have kids or even curious pets. Exposed blades with sharp edges...

Second, most of the people simply slap the blades onto the strips, which does damage the edge. Proper way is to land the spine first and then gently rotate the wrist to lend the edge.
Removal is the opposite. Rotate the blade to lift the edge first, then take it off. Simple, but 99% of the folks I've seen never do that, and then you have nicks and dents on the edge...

There are other block types, filled with fibers, no fixed slots, but those aren't very friendly to the edges either.
