Why is there an extra hand in Da Vinci's Last Supper? The hand is holding a knife at the right side of Jesus.

That's not an extra hand. It looks like it's coming in from nowhere, because there's a horizontal line from a cloth fold or something that makes it look like it continues on to become an arm. If you zoom in real close, though, you can see the line where the real wrist of the knife-hand is supposed to be. It's a severely bent wrist, not a straight one. I'm sure at one time, it was a lot clearer.
The hand that's suddenly looking weird to me is the second one on the table to Jesus's left. I suppose it belongs to the man behind the apostle in green, but...
Man, this thing has deteriorated. It won't be here for much longer.
