The battle of The Knife Peak (Nozhot) in Macedonia, 1907 ?
I need more informations about the battle at the Knife Peak or Nozhot in Mariovo District, Macedonia. I know that the wariors (komity) had the opportunity to escape the chain of the Turkish asker, but they decided to fight until dead.
United units (cheti) of the VMRO, led by the Voyvodas (Dukes) Mihail Chakov, Tane Nikolov, Hristo Cvetkov and Petar Acev, numbered few hundreds of warriors named komity, have been surrounded near Mariovo, on 13th of July 1907. While they had meeting, 57 of the komits, mostly Kosturians, decided to remain on The Knife Peak (Nozhot, on Macedonian) and not to retreat until dead. The battle began at the morning 14th July 1907. Warriors were attacked by few thousends Turk asker and had fight whole day.They had killed a lot of Turks, but when they stood without ammunition, they numbered only 8 komits alive. In the evening they decided to kill themselves with their last bombs. The Turk commander, Enver Bey, stood astonished by this heroic dead and did not allow mutiliation. This is one of many Macedonian tragedies, milestones to our way for independence.
