1) Which of the following exerts the greatest gravitational force on you?
A. Earth
B. Your classmate
C. Sun
D. The star in your zodiac

2) Your empty hand is not hurt when it bangs lightly against a wall. Why is it hurt if it does so while carrying a heavy load? Which of Newton's laws is most applicable here?

Please answer and give reasons.

1. A, Earth. g=GM/r^2. Earth is the largest mass near enough to exert a large force.

2. 3rd law. F=ma. Same acceleration, assuming same velocity, but your hand effectively has greater mass, so a greater force is needed to stop it.

3. Throw them at the same speed and make each one hit a bathroom scales. The one that registers the bigger weight is the sand. Sand is considerably denser, so the box of sand has more mass.

4. It isn't, it just seems that way. If that's wrong, it's possibly because of the greater mass of the cleaver.
