How big of a knife? Can it have serrations? Interested in giving a pocket knife as a Christmas gift; would like this to be something that the recipient can carry in a pocket without trouble from the authorities.
"Pocket knife" = knife (typically folding rather than fixed-blade) that would fit into an ordinary pants pocket and be legally carried by its owner most everywhere (including an urban setting). An axe, machete, or large hunting knife would not be classified as a pocket knife. A Swiss Army knife might be a pocket knife.

Here -- which is Ottawa, Ontario -- there are some relatively recently introduced rules about buying knives, which I found out about a few years ago when I wondered about buying a good pocket knife for one of my little brothers -- not to encourage delinquency, but because he was doing the Boy Scout thing.
