did anyone watch that show AUTISM X 6? on discovery health?
do you think that show was a bit rediculous? that was the most unsanitary house they were living in! no sheets on the beds. also, since their kids climb on everything and get into everything....then why did they have a knife set sitting right on the counter!?!?!? also, (i might be wrong on this) but do you think that 14 yr old boy should be changing a almost 7 yr old girls diaper? i understand why she's in diapers, but i think only her mom or dad should do it. did anybody else notice these things? and the mom's like "all i do is either sleep or watch tv all day".
I think that unless you have a child with autism, you can't possibly understand. It's so easy to judge when you haven't walked in someone's shoes. I didn't notice the knife on the counter, but you know, they are human and make mistakes. I don't have a problem with the brother changing the 6 yo's diaper. You'd let a girl do it, why discriminate against the boy? Not all boys are pedophiles, and having autism himself does not make him a pedophile either. Maybe some day he'll have his own child and he'll know how to care for kids. I did see the beds with no sheets. They said the younger ones with classic autism pull the sheets off. I don't think it was unsanitary, they showed her wiping down the mattress with a water/bleach mixture... the peeled paint on the walls was sad, but like the mom said, if they repaint it, they will just peel it off again. I'm sure they could put plexiglass up or something, but imagine that...it costs money.
And as a mom with a child with autism, I can say that it does exhaust you. Some days, I just can't make myself clean the house, or cook a good dinner. Some days pizza is good enough. I can understand why she made that comment. And you misquoted her-- She said some days she watches too much tv or sleeps. As long as the kids are cared for (and some of them do go to an autistic school in the morning) who cares if she takes a nap or watches too much tv. The kids need a SANE mother.
Don't judge unless you live it. Maybe some day karma will bite you in the butt and you'll have special needs kids of your own. Then you'll get it.
