how do you sharpen your hunting knife?
i bought a new knife and its still razor sharp but it wont be if i get an elk this year but how do you all sharpen your knives? i have a little hand sharpener that is 2 rods in a v that u drag the knife through but that ruined my last knife, i dont have the money go go buy those nice 80 dollar stones or the patients to use those stones so does anyone have a good, easy, and fast way to sharpen them?
if it helps the kife is a Kershaw and the guy i bought it from will sharpen them for free but he wont be in the field with me..
ive noticed that some companys like lansky have a system wehre you clamp your knife in then use a thing that makes sure you are sharpening at a certain angle what are these like?
A combination of stones... oil stones, water stones, ceramic stones or diamond stones will all work well and don't always cost $80.00. Finish up by removing the wire edge with a good strop and rouge and you can shave with it... if you did it right.
There aren't any shortcuts that I know of and once you become proficient it only takes a few minutes. Some things are well worth taking the time to learn. This is one of them.
ADDED:
Anything that clamps your blade at a specific angle is more appropriate for chisels than it is for knife blades.
