Opinion on contemp knife/block set?

The block must be black or silver. I can't afford elite knifes but I don't want crappy workmanship either. I'm looking to spend about 180 for 13-14 piece set. I really could use some advice from people who have owned the brands listed below. I'm only interested in buying a set.

The steel that they are made with is what you should worry about. German steel is really good, like Henckels. If you can afford it, go with Japanese steel. It's harder than German steel. Unfortunately, Japanese steel is REALLY expensive. I have Henckles knives. But every line has high end and low end knives. Go to the store and buy the knives separately. You get exactly what you need and you can usually get more for your money. All the sets come with steak knives and when I bought my knives I didn't need steak knives so I found buying them individually was best for me. They sell the wooden blocks separately too so you don't have to worry about storage.
