I had a Gerber Multi-Plier that was great for anything.

As far as a "combat knife", I had an SOG SEAL Pup knife w/a 4 3/4" blade. Since I did a lot of dismounted missions, I didn't want a huge knife that was just extra weight and not necessary. Besides, you don't need a blade any bigger than that.

A Gurkha Kurkri knife is just too damn big and heavy to carry around. The same applies to a Bowie-type knife.

If you're not worried about weight, I'd recommend going with a combat axe.
