Is it possible to wreck your knife with a knife sharpener?
I live in Australia. I bought a Global Chef's knife for $100. It was excellent. I bought an electric knife sharpener as well. I used the sharpener as best I could, trying to keep the knife straight (as per the instructions) but afterward the knife didn't cut very well and did not look as if it was sharpened symmetrically (so perhaps I didn't hold it straight after all).
How can I fix this knife?
Where can I find a "foolproof" sharpener that ensures the knife can be sharpened with no skill required?
Thanks
PS The sharpener I bought was highly recommended (see link)

Its possible if you do it too hard. Go easy and not too hard, you could also break your sharpener. PS you don't need a foolproof sharpener.
