Spring Assisted Knife?
How dangerous are these in your pocket? Can they open easily on accident?
I'm Mexican. And they aren't illegal.
For one, I think some folks here are mistaking spring assisted knives with switchblades.
Either way whether or not they are legal depends on local laws.
In California for example, switchblades longer than 2" are illegal, but assisted openers are not!

I've carried two of them in my knife collecting years:

Neither of them ever had a problem.
Boa had a switch for lock the knife in closed position.
Shallot is a later model, better steel and design IMHO, but no switch, however, all these times I was carrying it never anything remotely like that happened. It takes some force to open it, and first 30-40 degrees during opening the blade is forced back to locked position, only after 45deg angle the blade jumps and locks in open position.
I can't imagine that happening accidentally.
Also, nobody has reported such an accident neither on bladeforums nor on knifeforums. There's a lot of folks carrying those knives, so if there was a trouble I'm sure it'd be reported and discussed.
At least all sorts of other issues with knives are openly discussed there.
That said, if you buy some cheapo junker nobody can guarantee anything. Not even that it'll be legal the way the law defines it.
