Are Elk Ridge knives pieces of junk?
I bought and Elk Ridge knife, and someone said that their knives were junk. Is this true?
The question is somewhat subjective. But no...I don't feel they are junk. They are of pretty decent quality for what you pay. They of course are NOT custom quality, (Steel) but I have seen brand name knives that won't work any better in a given situation and cost much more. They hold an edge "ok" and will work in the field for years providing that you don't throw them against a tree and expect it not to break. (You wouldn't want to throw a custom against a tree either.) If I were to go hunting or needed it for defense, then I would feel comfortable with it on my side. (Depending on the style of course.) I don't know this for a fact but the common 440 steel and wood knife is probably made in China, but so is Cold Steel knives and I really like them and depend on them for many things. While I have a friend that makes really nice customs, most of my working knives are the cheaper knives like the brand you are inquiring about.
