domestic violence question..help?

i was in an abusive relationship for a 1 1/2 we broke up around jan 08 (im now out of state back at my moms safe
but in december 07 he twisted my wrist it hurt so bad i ended up going to emergency room of course i wasnt aloud to tell the truth he made me say a huge lie, the doctor told me my wrist was sprained and that was it, wore a brace for 2 weeks.. but it still hurt-and yesturday i went to the doctor by my moms house- hes a bone specialist- he told me that my wrist was actully fractured and a ligament is torn away from the wrist bone and i will need surgery and they might have to rebrake my wrist to realign the wrist bone.
can i press charges against him and how would i go about this
all the domestic violence took place in il-and some at my moms house in wi(i have 3 witnesses to)
and also in il the have a domestic charge on file under his name.
and now my ex bf fleed il and now lives in nc i know this because he contacted me.
You have a personal injury case against the man that assaulted you. You need to consult with a local attorney. I am fairly sure you will have to file your suit in the state in which it occured. That would obviously be a burden, but so will the cost of your operation. Getting him served, will also be a problem. And then, of course, if you get a judgment , enforcing it will be another huge effort. With that said, an attorney can counsel you about the criminal complaint, which you do need to file asap. It is possible to ask the criminal court for restitution for your injury, but again, if he has empty pockets, you can't wait long for your surgery.I am afraid you are caught between a rock and hard place, like most victims of crime. I hope the other poster is correct and in the jurisdiction, in which the crime occured, has a fund for victims. My sympathies. But get the process moving! If you get a civil judgment against your perpetrator, in some jurisdictions , it will remain in effect for up to twenty years,so if he does ever have assets , you can seize those to pay the judgment. If the court orders restitution in the criminal case (and don't let the porsecutor forget) his freedom will be at stake until he pays. Also, for the sake of clarity; you cannot have both a civil judgment and the restitution; you need to discuss this with your lawyer and decide on a stragedy.
