Butterfly knife/balisong legal questions...?
One: Is it a really bad idea to fly (NM to WA, probably) with a butterfly knife in your checked baggage? I've done it plenty of times with big pocket knives and folders, but I don't know if it's different with a butterfly...
Two: Are there any known laws connected having a butterfly knife inside your home? Everything I've been able to find on state knife laws seems to refer to knives in public... I just want to be able to play with the thing while watching tv...
Three: Are there any legal concerns in regards to ordering a butterfly knife mail-order? Is that state by state? (again, WA and NM).
Lastly: Is there any one good page that anyone can recomend to find all of this info online, clearly written for the laymen??? I'm not too good at decoding the surprisingly complex law-speak.

I don't think it would be a problem, but I'd say the safest bet would be to contact the airline you are using. It seems like so many of the rules have changed..I'd check instead of risking losing it.

That's the best I can do. My only other thought would be to contact state police in each state you mentioned and just ask, or ask them to direct you to the place where you can find the info. you need. Good luck!
