military tactics?
i dont know where else to ask this question and i apologize that it is not very much a hunting question, but many of you are are veterans or in a branch of the service now and i greatly value your input as i do from those who are not or have not been in a branch of the service.
ok i was wondering when you go through boot camp or basic or advanced training, is there a name for the hand to hand combat techniques you learn? example: scout sniper if encountered can disarm an enemy with hand to hand combat. just wondering if the techniques have a name? and is there a way for civilians to learn these techniques? thanks.
Emphasis is placed more on breaking contact with an enemy and drawing a weapon, or keeping him from using his until you can use yours. In other words, the hand to hand portion of training is still centered around "the gun." The discipline all depends on the branch of service as well, also any extensive hand to hand training is exclusive to special forces.
That being said, I do know the Army uses anything useful from several disciplines and throws it into a mixture for group training. The main disciplines utilized are Krav Maga, and Ju Jitsu.
Krav Maga is mainly what is taught, it is different in that it is not a sport, it is serious. The emphasis with Krav Maga is maximum damage to the other guy, minimal damage to yourself, do it lightening fast and with the resources at hand...Sometimes that resource is a holstered gun, sometimes it is a tooth brush to the eye. Whatever it is, you can count on it being pretty brutal and threat ending. There is no honor system in Krav Maga, no "clean fighting" just - winning- in any deadly situation.
Ju Jitsu is taught because it comes into play during situations where we must restrain or flex cuff individuals. It is not taught so much for self defense as it is used in an offensive or dominant manner.
