can us soldiers carry non-issued weapons?
im gonna be in the army in about 4 years and i've always wondered, could i purchase something like a ruger redhawk and bring it with me while im in combat, in addition to my beretta and m16. i'm guessing this is now against regulations, but is there any way i could get away with it? or even like an 8 inch dagger, in addition to my field/combat knife? i know this sounds kinda stupid but why not a little extra firepower and it would be bad ass....

Battle approved gear only. Using personal fire arms can cause major treaty violations or issues if you use it in a combat situation. Also, it is illegal to keep firearms and weapons in military dorms, which is where you will most likely live for the first few years of enlistment and during any deployments, as well as on many posts, in military housing as well. It is completely illegal to take weapons with you on internation flights or into foreign countries and even military member's bags get a thorough checking and xray going through customs (even if you fly directly to another base, your bags will be searched). Bringing illegal weapons onto a military post is a federal offense, bringing them into another country leaves you open to charges by a foreign nation (and most of them have criminal systems vastly different and much harsher than our own). Don't be stupid...follow the rules and get the idea of Rambo out of your head, It is too much of a risk for yourself and the men and women you would serve with.
